Opening weekend for the summer Bright Nights Tianyu festival “art by day and magic by night” at Four Mile Historic Park. Interactive, large lantern-lighted art; mythical creatures; a crystal forest, home to unicorns; Colorado wildlife; wildflowers and other pretty things. Are you and your buds ready for a rough-tough endurance weekend? It’s the Tough Mudder event series for the public and military at Fort Carson Training Areas 2 and 4 and a test of “physical strength, mental grit, and aptitude for camaraderie.” For ages 14+, there’s running, obstacles and an Infinity challenge. SummerFest kind of weekend, filled with art and music, is set in the natural beauty of Evergreen. Almost 100 booths featuring works by artists from the region and two days of music by local bands. Children’s craft activities; food trucks and spirits. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.at Buchanan Park Field near the nonprofit Center for the Arts Evergreen. $5 admission. A free evening of outdoor adventures for families, Joy Park Free Night and the Adventure Forest, in collaboration with Denver Parks and Recreation. Wonderful smells and beautiful colors at this weekend’s Chatfield Farms’ Lavender Garden Lavender Festival with more than 2,000 plants, farm demonstrations including the blacksmith, kids’ activities and music in the amphitheater. 8500 Deer Creek Canyon Road, Littleton, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission $15, $13 seniors, $9 ages 3-15. Denver Makers Market Littleton opens a series of monthly Denver area markets that will include Lakewood, Aurora, Fort Collins, Northglenn and Denver. First up is 5900 S. Santa Fe Drive, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Local, small artisans and vendors are featured. And there’s food. denvermakersmarket.com
