7 family-friendly restaurants in Colorado Springs

Most Colorado Springs students found themselves back in the classroom this week. Whether they welcome the change or dread the return to their desk depends on the student, however, the value of weekends is returning for all. 

If you’re a parent looking for a place to celebrate the first weekend of the new school year, we’ve gathered a list of the best family-friendly restaurants in Colorado Springs. These restaurants stand out in terms of a welcoming environment and child-friendly menus.

7. Gunther Toody’s

Located at: 5794 Palmer Park Blvd. and 5490 E. Woodmen Rd. 

This restaurant specializes in American food with a classic 50s and 60s twist, according to their website. If your child is in a car phase, this would be an great stop for your family — they host a Friday Night Cruise where owners of classic cars stop by to show off.

6. Edelweiss

Kindergarten teacher, piano teacher and accordionist Edel Nosal plays for guests as she wanders the tables at Edelweiss.

This German restaurant has fed Colorado Springs families for over 50 years, according to their website. Once inside, patrons are transported to a small European town, with sounds of strolling musicians adding ambience and fun to the little world. European artifacts adorn the walls and the food matches the level of authenticity the owners present.

Reservations are required, so be sure to plan ahead.

Located at: 1721 S. Eighth St. and 604 N. Tejon St.

This Italian restaurant has all the classic dishes, but one in particular stands out: The panino. Essentially it’s a rolled sandwich, described on their website as “a gourmet creation made with the finest garden fresh vegetables (and) top choice quality meats and cheese.” First opened in 1974 as Pizza Plus, the owners changed the name in 1991 due to the sandwich’s popularity. 

Today, it hosts a family-friendly environment and menu. There’s something for everyone within the extensive menu featuring salads, pastas, pizzas, appetizers and of course paninos. 

4. Texas Roadhouse

Located at: 595 S. Eighth St. and 3120 N. Powers Blvd.

Famous for its complimentary rolls and cinnamon honey butter, this restaurant is a family favorite across the United States. They have a back-to-school gift card special you can read about on their website.

3. The Airplane Restaurant

This restaurant is likely to turn the whole family into kids again. You have the opportunity to dine in a fully intact Boeing KC-97 tanker built in the 1950s. The airplane changed roles from military transporter to restaurant in 2002. The food included in this unique dining experience is mostly American with lots of burger, salad, and chicken options.

2. Red Robin

Red Robin is another widely praised family-friendly restaurant. It might be best to save it for a weekday meal as the kids menu is 50% off on Wednesdays. Red Robin has many “bottomless” options for growing kids and teens.

1. Fargo’s Pizza Co.

Located at: 2910 E. Platte Ave.

Colorado Springs residents have spoken and Fargo’s Pizza Co., is the ultimate place for a family-friendly restaurant excursion. Two brothers first opened the restaurant in 1973 and it’s been a community staple since.  

Along with pizza there is a salad bar, pasta, sandwiches and desserts. It’s completed with a game room for kids and a solid tap beer and wine selection for adults, according to their website.
