Bear breaks into garage of house outside Colorado Springs

Wildlife officials are again warning about bears becoming habituated and losing their natural fear of people.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) recently posted a video of a bear breaking into the garage of a house just outside of Colorado Springs.

The bear also found the barbecue grill and dragged it.

According to CPW, this is “not natural bear behavior” because the animals naturally fear humans and avoid them and their homes unless they see humans as a food source. Then they “become aggressive and potentially dangerous, even ripping open windows and doors of houses to get food.

Bears become “an immediate threat to human health and safety” after they learn how to enter a garage or home, CPW added in the X post.

CPW encourages people to bring in bird feeders each evening and secure garbage, pet food, and other attractants away from animals. Also, be sure to clean things like barbecue grills.

CPW also shared some more images of the damage bears can do:
