DMV collecting stuffed animals for children in crises
When a first responder has to interact with a child during a time of crisis, they often provide stuffed animals as a form of comfort.
Over the past seven years, the KOSI 101.1 Teddy Bear Patrol donation drive has collected stuffed animals to provide to emergency responders for those moments of crisis. Now, they are looking for more people to help.
When the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles first joined the radio station’s drive in 2023, officials held an employee-only donation, bringing in 217 stuffed animals. But now, until Sept. 4, locals can donate stuffed animals to the cause, which go directly to first responders.
“Help us make a difference — if you can donate a stuffed animal, please do,” DMV Senior Director Electra Bustle said in a press release. “It might seem like a small act, but the comfort it provides can mean the world to a child who just experienced trauma.”
Those interested in donating must bring a new stuffed animal — preferably in store packaging — to one of the 24 participating driver license offices throughout the state.
The stuffed animal when then be given to KOSI 101.1. The radio station will then distribute them to first responders across the state.
A list of all 24 participating offices can be found using the DMV’s online map.
