Aurora police searching for man in connection to July homicide
The Aurora Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a man wanted on suspicion of first-degree murder earlier this year.
The department obtained an arrest warrant for 32-year-old Bryant Jay Beecher, of Denver, earlier this month in connection to a July 5 shooting in which one man was killed and another was injured, according to a press release from the department.
Officers initially responded to 12170 E. 30th Ave. — near Peoria Street and Fitzsimons Parkway — just after midnight for a report of a shooting. Initial investigations found that two men came into an apartment and fired at two men inside.
The two victims — 57-year-old Fred Willis and an unnamed 46-year-old man —were transported to a nearby hospital where Willis later died around 6:30 a.m., according to police.
Willis’ identity was later released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office and ruled a homicide.
The first suspect, 53-year-old John Edwards, was arrested in Texas in September, police said. He is charged in Adams Country District Court with one count of first-degree murder after deliberation and one count of attempted first-degree murder. He remains in custody on $1.2 million bond.
The second suspect, Beecher, remains at large, with police actively searching for him.
Homicide detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who might have information about Beecher and his whereabouts, police said. Tips can be submitted to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
Edwards is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 17.
