Christmas closures around metro Denver

It’s the most wonderful time of the year — which means closures to the cities, counties, state offices and several businesses.

Most government offices and city agencies will be closed on Wednesday in observance of Christmas, a federal holiday. All courts will also be closed, as well.

For those still waiting for those last-minute gifts to arrive, mail services will also be postponed during the holiday. All 24-hour agencies — like emergency services and the Denver International Airport — will remain fully operational on Wednesday, though.

Most businesses and restaurants will also close on Wednesday; others will operate with altered schedules. People should check specific business websites before traveling to them.

Government and city buildings in Denver, Adams, Jefferson and Douglas counties will be closed on Wednesday and reopen on Thursday. Denver libraries will also be closed.

Arapahoe County offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, as well. Douglas County offices will close four hours early on Tuesday, too.

Some Denver government buildings will be closed on Thursday. Check the website of the specific agency before heading that way the day after Christmas.

Street parking throughout the city of Denver will be free on Wednesday for the holiday. It will return to normal prices on Thursday. Denver public transportation via the Regional Transportation District will also be operating on its holiday schedule.

While most state parks, county parks, campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open through the holiday, Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, Colorado National Monument Association and Mesa Verde National Park will be closed on the holiday.

Boulder Reservoir will also be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Who needs a timeless symbol of Christmas to celebrate the holidays when the Grinch — with his cynicism, self-doubt and grumpiness — […]

The 119th year of National Western Stock Show opens Saturday, Jan. 11, and continues through […]
