Jefferson County shelter-in-place lifted for ‘armed barricade’
A shelter-in-place order is no longer in effect for residents in a Columbine-area neighborhood in Littleton following an armed barricade situation Tuesday afternoon, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities around 12:45 p.m. issued the order for residents in the area of the 6500 block of South Weber Street, near South Wadsworth Boulevard and West Coal Mine Avenue.
As of 3:30 p.m., Jefferson County deputies remained on-scene for what authorities call an “armed barricade” situation inside a home.
At around 4:15 p.m., authorities lifted the shelter-in-place after the suspect was found dead from an apparent suicide.
A sheriff’s spokesperson said the situation began as a domestic violence dispute when a man with a gun opened fire. No injuries were reported and the man is the only occupant of the home, according to the sheriff’s office.
Approximately 500 homes in the immediate area were issued the shelter-in-place order. Some roads remain closed in the area, according to the sheriff’s office.
