New Year’s Day closures around metro Denver

The fireworks will have gone off and the ball dropped. Faster than one can fathom, 2025 is upon us with New Year’s Day falling on Wednesday.

The federal holiday will bring about a plethora of closures throughout metro Denver, including city, county and state and government buildings across the various counties. So, those heading out on the holiday to run errands should be aware of the potential disruptions to normal activities.

All government offices and city agencies throughout Colorado will be closed on Wednesday and reopen on Thursday, including all buildings in Denver and Aurora.

Mail services will also be postponed during the holiday. Some businesses and restaurants may also close on Wednesday — some may operate with altered schedules. People should check specific business websites or call before traveling to them.

All 24-hour agencies — like emergency services and the Denver International Airport — will remain fully operational on Wednesday.

Government and city buildings in Denver, Adams, Jefferson, Arapahoe and Douglas counties will be closed on Wednesday and re-open on Thursday. Denver libraries will also be closed.

Denver street parking will be free on Wednesday for the holiday. Denver public transportation will be affected, though, with the Regional Transportation District operating on its holiday schedule.

All state parks, county parks, campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open through the holiday. Boulder Reservoir will be closed on Wednesday, though.

Be sure to check county websites or businesses for specific closure information.
