A man died in Westminster Wednesday morning after a suspected road-rage incident led to him getting hit by a passing vehicle.

The Westminster Police Department responded to reports of a three-vehicle crash on the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 36, just west of Church Ranch Boulevard, around 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found an injured 30-year-old man who was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations found that the man was part of a road-rage incident on the highway with another vehicle. The two vehicles pulled over and the man got out of his truck to confront the other driver, police said.

While the man was approaching the other vehicle, he was struck by a passing car, according to police.

Police added that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, with officers finding open alcohol containers in the 30-year-old man’s truck. 

No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made in connection with the crash pending investigation.

The identity of the man will later be released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
