2 people stabbed at Parker businesses, suspect arrested

A judge set a $1 million bail for a suspect accused of stabbing two people at Parker businesses on Sunday night, authorities said on Wednesday.

Luke Barkhaus, 31, was arrested on Tuesday and was being held in the Douglas County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, disorderly conduct, child abuse and unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon, according to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

On Sunday evening, a Parker restaurant reported that a man had stabbed an employee and ran. About an hour later, another Parker business reported a stabbing by the same man, the Parker Police Department said.

One of the victims was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Officers watched surveillance video from the second stabbing to gather information on the man’s vehicle and license plate number. On Tuesday, investigators found Barkhaus in Aurora and arrested him without incident, police said.

Barkhaus has previous convictions in Arapahoe County, according to court records. He has previously been sentenced for cases involving menacing, assault on a peace officer and sexual contact with no consent.

His next court appearance is set for Feb. 3.
