National Western Stock Show parade delayed Thursday due to weather
Steers and wranglers of the National Western Stock Show parade must wait an extra hour on Thursday to march the streets of downtown Denver.
Stock Show officials said weather — which has brought icy and cold conditions to Denver in the past two days and forecasts call for snow Thursday morning — has prompted a one hour delay to 1 p.m. Thursday, at Union Station.
The parade marches from Union Station at 17th Street, then ends at 17th Street and Glenarm Place, near The Brown Palace.
“The decision was made in coordination with the National Weather Service, city officials, and transportation advisors to ensure the safety of animals, riders, parade participants, and spectators,” Stock Show officials said in a news release.
“Adjusting the start time will allow for improved conditions during the event,” officials said.
The last Stock Show parade to be canceled came in 2021 due to snow and freezing temperatures. Stock Show officials typically cancel the parade if the safety of animals or participants are at risk through the 17th Street parade route.
The parade includes horse-drawn wagons, western riding groups, and the iconic Longhorn cattle drive.
A cherished tradition that brings Western heritage to downtown Denver, the Stock Show parade will feature the 2025 Grand Marshal Kathy Sabine, an avid equestrian and 9NEWS chief meteorologist.
