Teen LoDo shooter sentenced to 7 years in juvenile facility

The teenager who shot into a crowd in Denver’s Lower Downtown neighborhood was sentenced to seven years in Pueblo’s Youthful Offender System Wednesday.

Keanna Rosenburgh was 17 when she shot five people and injured eight outside of a bar at 20th and Market streets in 2023, angry that a bouncer turned her away over a fake ID.

In September, Rosenburgh, now 18, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted first-degree murder and a violent crime sentence enhancer. Twenty-seven charges were dropped as part of the plea deal. If she misbehaves in the Youthful Offender System, she will be required to serve a 21-year prison sentence.

She apologized to several victims who were in the courtroom and said she regrets her “mistake” every day. When Judge Demetria Trujillo asked her what mistake she was talking about, she answered “Firing into a crowd,” according to The Denver Gazette’s news partner 9NEWS.

There were eight named victims in the case, five of whom were shot. Others suffered injuries from debris caused by the bullets, such as concrete.

Three of Rosenburgh’s victims suffered gunshot wounds to the leg, another was shot in the ankle, and a fifth victim was shot in the right big toe.

She originally faced more than 20 criminal counts, including eight charges of attempted murder.

Security footage captured Rosenburgh firing a handgun indiscriminately into a crowd of people waiting in line at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row on Sept. 16, 2023.

In an earlier hearing, the former Lakewood teen told the judge that she never got past 10th grade. She fled to California after the shooting and was arrested more than a month later in Barstow.

The shooting kicked off a series of neighborhood meetings with city leaders over violence in downtown Denver.

On Feb. 11, Denver City Council members are sponsoring a Town Hall with Denver Police Department and Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) representatives to discuss ongoing problems after multiple stabbings happened downtown over the last two weeks.
