Air Force hires assistant defensive line coach Fred Wyatt, filling lone hole on football coaching staff
Air Force filled the lone vacancy on its football coaching staff thus far in the offseason, hiring Fred Wyatt as defensive line assistant.
Wyatt replaces Deonte Gibson, who spent one season coaching defensive ends on Troy Calhoun’s staff before departing last month for Wyoming.
Like Gibson, Wyatt is a Northwestern graduate (2018). His coaching career has included two seasons as a graduate assistant at Kansas State, working with defensive backs along with his father, Buddy, a 30-year-coaching veteran.
Wyatt has since spent two seasons at NCAA Division II Missouri Western, coaching the defensive line. He spent last season at Eastern Illinois, where he helped the Panthers finish 30th nationally in FCS in rushing defense.
Wyatt, a native of Lawrence, Kan., will work with Air Force defensive line coach Alex Means on a defense coordinated by Brian Knorr.
