Man killed at Highlands Ranch arcade

A man was killed and a woman was injured in shootings at a popular arcade and laser tag venue in Highlands Ranch.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call about an active shooter just before midnight Sunday at Main Event Highlands Ranch, located at 64 West Centennial Boulevard.

A deputy who was down the street responded and discovered a man with a handgun in the parking lot.

“The first deputy on the scene encountered a man in the parking lot armed with a gun,” according to a news release by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

“The deputy gave him several commands to drop the weapon, which he failed to comply with. The male then turned towards the deputy, at which point the deputy fired his weapon and hit the male.”

The deputy told the man to drop the gun, who continued walking between two vehicles before turning towards the deputy, who then shot him, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned there was initially a shooting inside the building involving two women. One suffered gunshot injuries to the chest and foot, and the other woman who was responsible for the shooting was taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators believe the man killed in the parking lot was connected to the shooting inside, but weren’t able to elaborate Sunday morning.

The 23rd Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the deputy-involved shooting, and the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 303-660-7549.
