New to ice fishing? See a ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park
The thought of fishing atop a frozen lake can be intimidating. Allow a ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park to help.
One will be on hand from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays and Sundays at Sprague Lake through March 21.
No fee is required beyond the park entrance ($30 per vehicle). Fishing equipment is provided, but a fishing license is needed for visitors 16 and older.
The park advises anglers to wear warm layers, waterproof boots and traction, such as Yaktrax, for walking atop the icy lake.

Sprague Lake is off Bear Lake Road via the Beaver Meadows entrance out of Estes Park.
The ranger-led ice fishing opportunity was announced along with other guided outings that started last month in Rocky Mountain National Park. Activities are free, including the guided snowshoe tours from the park’s east (Estes Park) and west (Grand Lake) sides. The west side also offers ranger-led cross-country ski tours on certain days.
