Boulder man released on low bond leads police on two-week crime spree with multiple police-chases

A suspect is in custody after what police described as a reckless crime spree that involved three stolen cars, two home burglaries and several police chases in four Colorado cities over a two-week time span.

The incidents began Feb. 25 in Boulder when the suspect, 31-year-old Kevin Aguirre, stole a car near O’Neal Circle and Baseline Road. Boulder Police Department officers arrested him, but a judge gave him a $10,000 bond and he was released four days later after posting $1,000, according to a BPD press release.

A week and a half later, Boulder police investigators said Aguilar stole a second car in Longmont, eluded officers and burglarized a home two days later. There, he ditched the Longmont car and stole a third car, police said.

The next day, March 12, Aguirre led officers on a high speed chase through Boulder, weaving between cars and ended up in Westminster at 136th Avenue and Interstate 25 where police say he tried to steal a fourth vehicle, failed at that, and took the third car to Loveland where he rammed several police vehicles before being apprehended.

Aguirre was booked into the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office jail and is being held on suspicion of 14 charges including two counts of second-degree burglary and another two counts of second-degree motor vehicle theft as well as reckless driving and obstruction.

On Thursday, a judge ordered Aguirre held on a $200,000 bond.

His apprehension was aided by the Colorado State Patrol, which Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn acknowledged in a the press release saying he was  “proud of the work our Special Enforcement Unit officers did investigating and coordinating with our regional policing partners to safely take this repeat criminal into custody despite the multiple ways he threatened the safety of numerous community members across Boulder and the metro area.”

Anyone with any information about these investigations is asked to contact Officer Grider at GriderJ@bouldercolorado.gov regarding case 25-02238.
