Castle Rock holding free vaccination clinic

Immunize Colorado will be holding a free vaccination clinic Sunday for all Douglas County residents and others in Castle Rock.

The nonprofit organization will be giving out vaccinations for both children and adults at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church — 2746 Fifth St. in Castle Rock — from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., according to a news release from the organization.

The vaccinations will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will include:

  • COVID-19 (available for children and insured adults)
  • Flu (available for all children and adults)
  • Hepatitis B (available for all children)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) (available for children)
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) (available for children)
  • Varicella (available for children)

“Vaccines are essential in maintaining healthy communities. They not only protect individuals from preventable diseases, but also keep entire communities safe and healthy by preventing illnesses before they happen,” the organization said in the release.

The event is spearheaded by Julissa Soto, a leading advocate for Latino health equity, and Colorado Access, Douglas County Health Department, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Immunize Colorado, Colorado Community Health Alliance- CCHA and Latinos Unidos for Vaccines.

The clinic comes on the heels of a measles outbreak in Texas and New Mexico with 256 total known infections in the two states between the end of January and beginning of March.

As of March 11, cases reported in Texas rose to 223 from 198 on March 7 and hospitalizations rose to 29 from 23.

The CDC told doctors last week the risk for widespread measles in the U.S. was low due to robust immunization, surveillance programs and the country’s capacity to respond.
