Colorado woman’s body found in river after being reported missing in Montana

MISSOULA, Mont. — The body of a Colorado woman who was last seen in Montana last month has been recovered from a river there, Missoula police said.

Police said the body of Danit Ehrilch, 33, was recovered from the Clark Fork River shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, after a 911 caller reported a person’s body in the river.

Ehrlich and her dog, Bamba, were last known to be in the area of a dog park in Missoula on Feb. 21. Police said on Feb. 23 that they believed Ehrlich had drowned in the river, which is adjacent to the dog park.

Police said Sunday that Bamba has not been found.

Friends said after she went missing that Ehrlich, a traveling nurse originally from Florida who was living in Thornton, had stopped at the park while en route to Tacoma, Wash.

“She parked her car at Jacobs Island Dog Park. That’s where she brought Bamba to play; a local had recommended it,” Cora Spillman, a close friend of Ehrlich’s, told 9NEWS on Feb. 28. “The river is right along the dog park, and they believe she had fallen in.”

Spillman spoke on behalf of several of Ehrlich’s friends, describing her as someone who cherished the small joys of life.

“She really just appreciated those small things in life, those small adventures that brought excitement to the day-to-day monotony that can happen when we’re living as adults,” Spillman said. “One of our favorite things to do was seek out new coffee shops.”

Known for her love of the outdoors, Ehrlich was described by friends as someone who truly embraced the mountain lifestyle.

“She’s not a Miami girl, she’s a mountain girl, true to heart,” Spillman said.

“Bamba was such a great, sweet dog,” Spillman said. “I think people felt the same thing about Danit, as well. Anyone who interacted with her loved her. She was kind and generous and really just made everyone around her feel comfortable.”
