Shooting outside Monument King Soopers being investigated as a murder-suicide, authorities say
Authorities say the suspect in a shooting that left a woman dead outside a King Soopers in Monument Friday died by apparent suicide 20 minutes later.
The deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a release Saturday afternoon.
Authorities responded to the shooting around 12:20 p.m. Friday on Baptist Road, outside of King Soopers, where they found the woman dead in a vehicle.
Witnesses told investigators that a man walked up to a vehicle in the parking lot and opened fire before driving off in a green Subaru.
Roughly 20 minutes later, at 12:42 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a suicide in the 6000 block of Bundleflower Court, in northeast Colorado Springs, authorities said.
Investigators found a green Subaru at the scene.
“We believe our investigation indicates this incident is between two people known to each other, is an isolated event, and there is no further risk to the community,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.”
The coroner will release the names of the victim and suspected gunman after their relatives have been notified.
