Spring cleaning time? Douglas County offers disposal yard to avoid fire risks
Get out the disinfectant and landscaping supplies, it’s time for some spring cleaning.
And in an effort to decrease wildfire risks, residents in Douglas County have a spot to drop off tree waste and yard disposal.
Douglas County is made up of roughly 50% open space and is one of the most susceptible area for wildfires in Colorado.
The drop-off site is a “one-stop-shop” for disposing during spring cleaning, which county officials noted is “the only place you need to visit for disposal.”
The disposal site, 1400 Caprice Drive in Castle Rock, opens Saturday, April 5.
Weather permitting, the site is only open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October.
“You may be cleaning up branches after winter wind or snowstorms or beginning the seasonal work of mowing, trimming, sawing and clearing brush from your yard or property — all an important part of reducing your risk for wildfires,” Douglas County officials said in a news release.
The disposal site offers free mulch by the end of the season, according to the county.
Officials advise residents to separate “slash” items (tree limbs, pine needles, shrubs and brush) from green yard waste items (grass, sod, leaves, weeds).
Additionally, Douglas County operates a year-round site, 7828 S. Colorado Highway 67 north of Deckers, to collect limited small loads on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In the case of inclement weather, officials advise those to call 303-663-6274 for updated information.
