11 Central Plains museums offering free admission Memorial Day through Labor Day

Eleven museums and attractions in Colorado’s Central Plains will be offering free admission from Memorial Day through Labor Day this year.

Using the password “Our Journey,” visitors will be able to gain free admission to the following list of the following museums, according to a news release:

  • The Arriba Museum: Open Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 711 Front Street Arriba, CO 80804.
  • The Bailey Saddleland Museum: Open by appointment at 20140 County Rd. 125 Simla, CO 80835. Call 719-541-2736, 719-740-0658 or 719-760-0773 to schedule.
  • The Cheyenne Wells Old Jail Museum: Open May 25 and 31 from 1-4 p.m.; June 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 from 1-4 p.m.; July 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 from 1-4 p.m.; Aug. 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 from 1-4 p.m., or call 719-767-5865 for appointment, at West 2nd Street Cheyenne Wells, CO 80810. 
  • The Elbert County Museum: Open Thursday – Sunday, 1-4 p.m., or call 303-621-2229 for appointment, at 515 Comanche Street (U.S. Highway 86) Kiowa, CO 80117.
  • The Flagler Hospital Museum and Hal Borland Room: Open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 311 Main Avenue, Flagler, CO 80815.
  • The Second Central School Museum: Open by appointment at 719-765-4603 at 404 Fourth Street Flagler, CO 80815.
  • The Kit Carson Museum: Open Sunday – Saturday, except Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 202 W Hwy. 40/287, Kit Carson, CO 80825 
  • The Kit Carson County Carousel Museum: Open every day, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carson County Fairgrounds, Burlington, CO 80807. Rides are $0.25. 
  • The Limon Heritage Museum & Railroad Park: Open Monday – Saturday, excluding Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at 899 1st Street & Exhibit Building 701 1st Street Limon, CO 80828. Group tours & other times by appointment. Call Depot:719-775-0430 or Exhibit Building: 719-775-8894.
  • The Lincoln County Museum: Open by appointment only at 617 3rd Avenue Hugo, CO 80821. Call 719-775-1055 to schedule.
  • The Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Museum: Open May 25 and 31 from 1-4 p.m.; June 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 from 1-4 p.m.; July 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 from 1-4 p.m.; Aug. 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 from 1-4 p.m., or call 719-767-5865 for appointment, at 50 South 1st Street Cheyenne Wells, CO 80810.

Additionally, several other places to visit will be open during the same time.

  • The Old Town Museum: The museum features over 20,000 objects, western gun fights and musical performances in Burlington. Open Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (60+), $6 for children ages 3-11; children under 3 and military are free. Call 1-800-288-1334 or 719-346-8404 for more information.
  • The Prairie Ridge Buffalo Ranch: Visitors can experience the North American Bison up close as they roam their natural habitat before enjoying an old-fashioned buffalo burger. June 1 – Aug. 31, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is $35 for adults, $20 for 6-12-year-olds and free for those 5 and under.
  • The Claremont Inn and Winery: A hotel, winery and specialty venue in Stratton selling small-batch wines and fine foods as well as featuring paint and sip events and a wine escape room.
