Arapahoe County toddler confirmed with measles taken to seven Aurora locations

A child under 5 years old who recently travelled to multiple international locations with family has been confirmed to have measles.

The toddler, who was unvaccinated and remains hospitalized, is a resident of Arapahoe County, and was present at several locations in Aurora last week before being placed in hospital isolation, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Tuesday.

The known exposure locations are as follows:

  • Thursday, May 22, 6 – 10 p.m.: Children’s Hospital Colorado Emergency Department, 13123 E. 16th Ave., Aurora
  • Friday, 10 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.: Walgreens, 18461 E. Hampden Ave., Aurora
  • Sunday, 10 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.: Walgreens, 18461 E. Hampden Ave., Aurora
  • Sunday, noon – 3:30 p.m.: Sam’s Club, 880 S. Abilene St., Aurora
  • Sunday, 6 – 8:10 p.m.: Natural Grocers, 3440 S. Tower Road, Aurora
  • Monday, 1:10 – 7:15 a.m.: Children’s Hospital Colorado Emergency Department, 13123 E. 16th Ave., Aurora
  • Monday – Tuesday, 9:25 p.m. – 4:15 a.m.: Children’s Hospital Colorado Emergency Department, 13123 E. 16th Ave., Aurora

Anyone who was in the locations above during the dates and times listed may have been exposed to measles and should monitor their symptoms for 21 days after the exposure, according to the release.  People who are susceptible to measles and were exposed at these locations may develop symptoms through June 17.

Symptoms for measles can include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that usually begins on the face several days after exposure, according to the release. People who were at these locations during the exposure window and develop symptoms should contact their health care provider or an urgent care center by phone.

Additionally, the Adams County Health Department and the Arapahoe County Public Health Department are offering free vaccination clinics with no appointment necessary for individuals who have been exposed. The locations for the two clinics are below.

  • Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Adams County Public Health Clinic, 1401 W. 122nd Ave. #200, Westminster
  • Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.: Arapahoe County Public Health Clinic, Altura Plaza, 15400 E. 14th Place, Aurora

The case is the sixth confirmed case of measles in Colorado this year.
