News Nuggets: Denver clerk slates legislative policy chats for June

Denver Clerk and Recorder Paul D. López will host two events in June, bringing together experts to discuss how recent federal policy and legislative proposals may affect voting access and the state’s mail-in ballot voting model.

Both events are free of charge and open to the public.

Panelists for “Potential Impacts of Federal Policy Proposals” will include Denver Clerk & Recorder Policy and Compliance Advisor Ben Schler, ACLU Senior Campaign Strategist Jen Samano, and a representative from the League of Women Voters. 

When: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday

When: Denver Press Club, 1330 Glenarm Place, Denver, CO 80204  

Panelists for the “Suffrage to SAVE Act Networking & Panel Discussion” will include COLOR Latina President and CEO Dusti Gurule, Colorado Black Women for Political Action President Bianka Emerson, and The Women’s Foundation of Colorado Director of Policy & Advocacy Alison Friedman.

Denver Chalk Art Festival

Denver’s annual Chalk Art Festival brings hundreds of chalk artists together for a free public event two blocks south of Civic Park, at 12th Avenue and Bannock Street. 

The two-day event, held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., will feature live music, food trucks, and a kid’s corner for aspiring young artists to create their own chalk art masterpieces. This is a rain or shine event.

Expect the following street closures beginning at 6 a.m. June 6 through 6 a.m. June 9:

  • Bannock St: 11th Avenue to 13th Avenue

  • 12th Ave: Cherokee Street to Acoma Street

  • Acoma St: 11th Avenue to 12th Avenue

Citywide trail clean-up

Denver Parks and Recreation invites volunteers to join a citywide trail cleanup this summer. Volunteers are needed at 11 different locations across Denver from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on June 7 to help with general clean-up tasks such as trash and debris removal, painting and weed mitigation.
