Prescribed burn producing smoke in El Paso, Teller counties

A prescribed burn in the Rampart Reservoir area is producing smoke visible to people in El Paso and Teller counties on Friday.

The Monument Fire Department shared photos on social media of smoke over the ridge to the southwest of town shortly before 1:30 p.m.

The Pikes Peak Ranger District is conducting the prescribed burns Friday on two projects near and around Rampart Reservoir.

A burn was planned for Rainbow Gulch, which is along Forest Service Road 300 near Rampart Reservoir. This is the burn that will be putting off the primary smoke seen Friday, according a report by Gazette news partner KOAA.

“The burn will be approximately 300 acres. Smoke is visible from Monument! Please do not call 911!” Monument Fire Department shared on X.
