Two well-known taprooms in Denver are set to close – but story won’t stop there

“We’re turning the page to an exciting new chapter,” reads an announcement from Great Divide Brewing related to the upcoming closure of two of their taprooms – one of which is in the Ballpark area with the other in RiNo. The final pints will be served in both locations at the end of June, though the three Great Divide locations in suburbs of Castle Rock, Lakewood, and Lone Tree are slated to remain open.

Great Divide Brewing Co. has long-been a staple of the Denver beer scene, first opening in 1994. The brewery made headlines in recent months, though, with the sale of the brewery to Wilding Brands last April. Wilding Brands also owns Stem Ciders, Denver Beer Co., Cerveceria Colorado, Funkwerks, Formation Brewing, Howdy Beer Co., and Easy Living Hop Water.

According to a Denver Post report, brewery founder Brian Dunn retained ownership of the two Denver taprooms that are set to close after the acquisition took place, though the same report notes that Dunn also mentioned that these spots may close in the future as he pursues a career outside of the brewing industry.

“This isn’t goodbye – it’s just the beginning,” reads a social media post from Great Divide related to the closure. “Behind the scenes, we’ve been working on something fresh, bold, and built for YOU – our amazing fans from Denver and beyond who’ve supported us every step of the way.”

Given that message, it sounds like the brewery’s move out of Denver might be temporary. It’s also worth noting that Brewhound hinted that a new location could open at some point in 2025.

Great Divide Brewing Co. is beloved by Denver’s local beer community, with beers scoring an average of 4.27 stars of five on Beeradvocate.com. While the two aforementioned Denver taprooms are set to close by the end of June, fans will still be able to visit other locations in the suburbs and shouldn’t have much trouble finding the spot’s popular brews at local stores.
