Boulder’s Frasca Food and Wine wins James Beard award
Frasca Food and Wine just nabbed another James Beard award.
The James Beard Foundation, which hands out one of the most prestigious accolades in the culinary industry, bestowed the Italian-inspired restaurant on Boulder’s Pearl Street the 2025 “Outstanding Restaurant” award Monday night.
A James Beard award is akin to winning an Oscar for restaurants.
It’s Frasca Food and Wine’s most notable James Beard award yet, after winning Best Chef in the Southwest region in 2008, Outstanding Wine Service in 2013 and Outstanding Service in 2019.
Frasca Food and Wine’s menu is inspired by the northeastern Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located at the foot of the Alps, and the Rocky Mountains.
It was also among the state’s first Michelin-star restaurants, when the inaugural Colorado guide was released in 2023.
The restaurant was founded in 2004 by Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson and Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey, who are the managing partners of Frasca Hospitality Group. They operate sister restaurants across the state, including Tavernetta and Sunday Vinyl in Denver.
Stuckey used his award speech Monday night in Chicago to recognize how the hospitality industry can be a place for single parents, immigrants and incarcerated individuals looking for an opportunity.
He also thanked the guests and employees who have been at the restaurant in its 21 years in business.
“Thank you to my guests for the last 21 years who’ve been on the journey about the cuisine of Friuli-Venezia Giulia,” Stuckey said. “We love you.”
The Boulder restaurant was the only James Beard award from Colorado this year.
Several Colorado restaurants were nominated for a James Beard award such as Grand Junction’s Bin 707 for Outstanding Chef, Denver’s Alma Fonda Fina for Best New Restaurant, Parker’s Poulette Bakeshop for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker, Denver’s Yacht Club for Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service and Denver’s Yuan Wonton for Best Chef in the Mountain region.
