Colorado Springs mayor leaves hospital after double pneumonia, clearing of artery
Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade was discharged from a hospital Thursday after a two-night stay for double pneumonia.
Mobolade said he was at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central from Tuesday to Thursday afternoon to recover from double pneumonia, which is when a pneumonia infection affects both lungs at the same time. Mobolade said he also received a “minimally invasive procedure” to clear a “significant blockage of my artery.”
On multiple social media accounts, Mobolade posted that the blockage would not have been discovered if not for the tests during his hospital stay. Acting chief city spokesperson Joe Hollmann said it was the first time Mobolade, 46, had been hospitalized while in office.

Hollmann would not elaborate further on Mobolade’s health before he took office in 2023 or about the artery blockage.
“I am grateful for the medical staff who provided exceptional care during my stay, and I will have some follow-up evaluations to ensure my health gets back to full strength. I am excited to be back to my official duties,” Mobolade said in the statement.

The hospital stay caused Mobolade to miss two stops on his planned Report Out Community Tour this well, along with a ribbon cutting and other mayoral duties. Mobolade thanked the city staff who assisted while he was unavailable.
Friday marked two years since Mobolade was sworn in as the 42nd mayor of Colorado Springs after winning a runoff election against Wayne Williams.
“I’m feeling renewed and ready to continue fighting for the things that matter to YOU. The second half begins now. Let’s go!” Mobolade posted on X.
