A Fort Collins man was booked into the Larimer County Jail on multiple felony charges Sunday after being shot by police earlier this month.
Fort Collins Police Department officers officially arrested 49-year-old Eugene Reinersman on Sunday after an officer-involved shooting that occurred on June 15.
The department received a 911 call regarding an argument at a home in the 700 block of Eastdale Drive around 10:30 p.m. The caller claimed that a man inside of the home was wielding a knife, according to a news release from the Eighth Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Upon arrival, officers found the suspect — later identified as Reinersman — outside of the home with the knife. Officers then commanded him to drop the weapon, but he refused, according to the release.
Police used “less lethal tools,” but he refused to cooperate, according to the district attorney’s office. One officer then shot Reinersman, hitting him once.
Reinersman was taken to a nearby hospital and released on Sunday. He was then booked into the jail and released on a $20,000 bond. The district attorney’s office asked for a $50,000 bond, according to the release.
The defendant was officially charged with five counts of felony menacing, one count of misdemeanor menacing, harassment and resisting arrest.
The officer was placed on administrative leave and the district attorney’s office’s Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the officer’s use of force.
Reinersman is due in court for his first hearing on July 8.
