Stolen vehicle pursuit ends in head-on crash in Glendale, injuring 5
Five people are injured, including the suspect, after a stolen vehicle pursuit ended in a head-on crash Saturday night, according to Colorado State Patrol and the Aurora Police Department.
According to a CSP news release, CSP officers responded to the crash around 6:27 p.m. near the intersection of South Cherry Street and South Leetsdale Drive.
Moments before the crash, Aurora Police Department officers initiated a pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Ram, according to CSP.
That pursuit began at 5:47 p.m. when officers “encountered a confirmed stolen vehicle” driving west on East Mississippi Avenue near South Chambers Road, an Aurora police spokesperson told The Denver Gazette.
The spokesperson said officers followed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop at Mississippi and Potomac Street, where the driver fled.
During the pursuit, the Dodge Ram initially crashed into another vehicle at East Florida Avenue and South Willow Street in Denver, where there were no reported injuries, CSP officials said.
The suspect continued driving northbound on Parker Road.
While driving, the damaged hood of the Dodge Ram sustained in the first crash blocked the driver’s view. At 5:59 p.m., the Dodge Ram swerved into the southbound lanes, causing a head-on collision with a Nissan Leaf at South Cherry Street and Leetsdale Drive, according to CSP and Aurora police.
