1 dead after 150-foot fall from steep rock face in Jefferson County

One person is dead after falling about 150 feet Thursday from a steep rock face in Jefferson County.

The Elk Creek Fire Department, a volunteer fire protection district serving Conifer and Pine Junction, responded to the incident near Eagle Gate and Pine Valley Road, southwest of Conifer.

“Our crews carried out a difficult high angle rope recovery operation with the support of Conifer Fire, Alpine Rescue Team, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office,” Elk Creek Fire officials said in a Facebook post. “We are deeply grateful for their assistance in such challenging conditions.”

The identity of the adult who died in the fall was not immediately released.
