Bomb robot ‘Johnny 5-0’ called to Douglas County home to remove, detonate old dynamite
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Bomb Squad called out bomb robot ‘Johnny 5-0’ to a residential shed in Douglas County on Monday to detonate old dynamite found inside a metal container.
According to DCSO the container, typically used on construction sites, belonged to a former resident who owned a construction company.
“Because dynamite can become extremely unstable with age, our Bomb Squad deployed Johnny 5-0, the bomb robot, to safely remove the device,” DCSO said in a post on the agency’s social media account X.

According DCSO the dynamite was carefully transported to a secure location, placed into a pre-dug blast pit and counter-charged with an explosive.
“Once the robot backed off to a safe distance, our team initiated an emergency disposal, resulting in a controlled detonation and complete deflagration of the suspected dynamite, rendering it safe,” DCSO said.
The DCSO said if you come across old explosives, dynamite, or suspicious devices — DO NOT TOUCH them and to call the DCSO Bomb Squad immediately.
