City Council, Johnston’s State of the City address set for Monday
Monday is a big day for the city of Denver as Mayor Mike Johnston will deliver his 2025 State of the City Address at 6 p.m. from the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) complex in downtown Denver.
The event will be live-streamed on Denver8 and the city’s YouTube page for those unable to attend in person.
The Denver City Council will meet, as usual, at 3:30 p.m. to consider several legislative items of interest as well as elect its new president and president pro tempore.
City officials note that the council president and president pro tempore are elected for one-year terms.
Although it is not required, it is customary for them to serve two terms. If re-elected, Council President Amanda P. Sandoval and Council President Pro Tem Diana Romero Campbell will remain in office until July 2026.
Fresh out of the Business, Arts, Workforce, Climate, and Aviation Services Committee is a bill to be introduced that will ask voters to approve a name change for one of its largest agencies, the Department of Excise and Licenses, to the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection.
City officials suggest the new name is a better fit, aiming to help the public understand the services offered by the department.
Elsewhere on the agenda, Denver Firefighters – IAFF Local 858 is seeking approval of a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the city for the years 2026 through 2027.
There is one proclamation made on consent honoring the cultural impact and the 25th anniversary of the Underground Music Showcase on South Broadway. The annual music festival recently announced that this year’s event will be its final.
There are no required public hearings scheduled during the 5:30 p.m. session.
The Denver City Council will hold its regular meeting Monday at 3:30 p.m., with the general public comment session scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
