Coca-Cola halts $500 million Denver plant project

Coca-Cola is backing out of its plan to build a massive new bottling facility near Denver International Airport.

The company announced Tuesday that it will no longer move forward with the project at the northeast corner of Tower Road and Peña Boulevard — a site that was expected to become a major hub for plastic and aluminum bottle production.

Originally unveiled last summer, the proposed plant carried a $500 million price tag and was projected to bring 200 jobs to the area.

Coca-Cola had said the project was necessary because its current Denver facility, located in the Central Park neighborhood, had reached capacity. But now, the beverage giant said it’s looking elsewhere in the state.

No alternate location has been announced.
