Davis Bryant, the defending champion, leads local field at Inspirato Colorado Open | Golf Insider
The Inspirato Colorado Open once again will bring a strong field to Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.
The annual tournament, which runs Thursday-Sunday and has the winner take home $100,000, will feature plenty of local golfers and some former PGA Tour players.
Defending champion and Aurora native Davis Bryant, who grew up at Green Valley Ranch with his dad Matt, who is the general manager, will return looking to become the first back-to-back winner since Dave Hill in 1976-77.
Davis’ mom, Julie, is the tournament director for the Inspirato Colorado Open.
“It’s a tournament I’ve dreamt of walking up this green and having a chance to win, and I was fortunate enough to have a chance on 18,” Bryant said after his 2024 win. “I got the job done in the playoffs. I’m super pleased, super proud of my hard work and my dedication.”
It took a playoff against fellow Colorado native Jim Knous for Byrant to take home the title in 2024. Knous was born in Basalt, played at Colorado School of Mines and played on the PGA Tour until 2024. He now works for PING in Arizona.
“It was a battle all day,” Knous said after the 2024 tournament. “It felt like it was a two-horse race the whole way. Me and Davis were just locked in. It was nice to have three early birdies and catch up to Davis and put some pressure on him.”
The local connections don’t stop with Bryant and Knous, who will also be in the field this week.
Colorado State graduate Connor Jones is coming off playing on the Korn Ferry Tour the last two weeks, which included a top 25 at TPC Colorado, will be playing at Green Valley Ranch. In 2024, he won the Men’s Elite Amateur Cup and placed fourth in both the Pacific Coast Amateur and the Southern Amateur.
Coloradans and former champs Derek Tolan and Zahaki Brown are in the field as well as Chris Korte who played in the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship last week.
Former CU-Boulder standouts Justin Biwer, Derek Fribbs and Tucker Clark will tee off at Green Valley Ranch, too. Clark got into the field by shooting a 63 Monday at CommonGround Golf Course and finished tied for medalist honors.
Former PGA Tour players will have a presence as well. Knous played on the PGA Tour for years. Sam Saunders, who lives in Fort Collins and is a grandson of the legendary Arnold Palmer, has played in over 150 PGA Tour events.
A four-time PGA Tour winner has also joined the 144-player field this year. Sean O’Hair has played in over 450 events on tour and recently played in the ISCO Championship.
The tournament is free for fans to attend. Tee times for Thursday can be found here.

What I’m thinking
It’s time to look back on the 2024 major season after Scottie Scheffler’s dominant win in The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
This year’s run ranks as one of the best in recent memory.
It started with Rory McIlroy’s historic win at The Masters, which was the most emotional and memorable win at Augusta since Tiger Woods in 2019. McIlroy breaking down after finally achieving the grand slam was a perfect way to kick off the 2025 majors.
Scheffler won the PGA Championship, the first major he’d won outside The Masters. It was an important milestone for the No. 1 player in the world.
The U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club didn’t have a big-name winner in J.J. Spaun but was memorable for his clinching 60-foot putt, the weather and the difficulty of the course.
Scheffler rounded out the year by dominating Royal Portrush to give him three-fourths of the grand slam before the age of 30.
This probably isn’t the best major season ever. In 2000, Woods won three of the majors and the same for Ben Hogan in 1953. But on an emotional and milestone level, 2025 is up there.

What they’re saying
“Everybody knows what the Happy Gilmore swing is. Everybody tries to enact it when they’re young. It’s a part of golf culture for sure.”
—Scheffler said at the “Happy Gilmore 2” debut, fresh off his second major title of the year at The Open Championship
