Gas fire extinguished near Johnstown off Highway 60, road closure remains
A gas fire that erupted on Highway 60 in Johnstown has been extinguished, according to Front Range Fire Rescue, but not before five people were hospitalized.
The fire agency originally announced the incident Thursday in a post on X, just shortly after 11:30 a.m.
The plume of flame was seen just east of Interstate 25 on the west edge of Johnstown.
Fire officials received a call about the fire at 11:09 a.m. and responded to the scene by 11:11 a.m., according to FRFR Chief Ryan Roberts.
According to another post on X, the fire was under control by 11:45 a.m.
Five people have been taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Roberts said.
Fire crews remain on the scene and all mandatory evacuations have been lifted.
Highway 60 remains closed between County Roads 13 and 15.
Multiple agencies and 35 individuals responded to the fire, including Greeley Fire Department, Windsor Severance Fire Rescue, UCHealth, Mountain View Fire Rescue, Johnstown Police Department and the Town of Johnstown.
Roberts said the cause of the flame remains under investigation.
Officials advised drivers to avoid the area until further notice.
