Jeffco encourages residents to apply for volunteer boards and commissions

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners is calling for residents to apply to vacant positions across volunteer boards and commissions later this year.

Various vacancies across 23 of the county’s 31 boards and committees will be available for applications this year, with application deadlines coming on July 29, with evaluations in August and appointments in September for staggered terms, according to a press release from the board of commissioners.

The board appoints more than 300 citizens to serve on boards and commissions, with current vacancies covering a broad array of topics like the board of health, the airport advisory board, the liquor license authority and the community corrections board, according to the release.

“It’s essential for community members to participate in local government and applying to serve on a board or commission is a great way to do so. Involving residents strengthens accountability, brings a diverse set of expertise to the table, and leads to more collaborative decision making,” Cassie Pearce, spokesperson for Jefferson County, told The Denver Gazette.

Pearce added that the call for applicants does not mean that volunteer numbers are low, but just a normal measure for the board as terms begin to end and the recruiting period starts.

Terms range from one year to as much as six and can be found at jeffco.us/767. Applications can also be submitted at the website.

Certain boards require specific criteria for selection. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review each board’s web page for more information, the county said.

Those with questions can reach out to Sarah Roddis at sroddis@jeffco.us or 303-271-8504.
