Lakewood police investigating ‘suspicious death’ after house fire Friday night

Lakewood police are investigating what they are calling a “suspicious death” after a woman was found dead in a home after a fire Friday evening.

At about 7:15 p.m. Friday, police and fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire in the 1700 block of Cody Street in Lakewood, according to a social media post from the Lakewood Police Department.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the front room of the house, authorities say. Crews then found the body of an adult woman after entering the building.

No other injuries stemming from the fire have been reported, police say.

The Lakewood Police Department and West Metro Fire Rescue are investigating the situation as a suspicious death, though police clarified that there is no threat to the public.

Lakewood police did not immediately respond to follow-up questions about the incident Saturday afternoon.

The name of the victim will be released after authorities contact their family, police say.
