Cult-favorite grocery store Trader Joe’s has finally opened its newest location in Colorado.

Trader Joe’s held a grand opening celebration on Friday for its new store at 9350 Sheridan Blvd. in the 25,000-square-foot space next to Golf Galaxy and Sierra Trading Post within Westminster City Center.

Videos from the grand opening event showed shoppers queued in long lines to get inside.

Trader Joe’s was founded in Pasadena, Calif. in 1967. Most of its grocery and everyday items are branded under the Trader Joe’s label.

The Westminster store is Trader Joe’s ninth in the state after entering the market in 2013. It has locations in Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Fort Collins, Parker and Greenwood Village.

“Creating a new, affordable housing community in the amazing Ruby Hill neighborhood supports the housing goals of the city and provides important housing options for the neighborhood,” said Kimball Crangle, Colorado market president of Gorman & Company, in a news release. “We are excited to provide 98 households a place to call home that is aligned with their incomes across from a jewel of a park in south Denver.”

Del Taco reopening restaurants

Several months after abruptly closing most of its restaurants across Colorado, Del Taco is coming back.

The Mexican-American chain began reopening 17 of its locations along the Front Range in phases, which began rolling out on June 21.

Five restaurants have already opened with 12 more to go. One restaurant located in Aurora at 3465 N. Salida St. will remain closed, according to Del Taco.

The reopening is part of the company’s plan to have direct corporate ownership of its locations, Del Taco said in a news release.

The restaurants will include new digital kiosks for ordering food.

“We’re thrilled to reestablish our presence in the Denver and Colorado Springs communities that have supported Del Taco for more than two decades,” said Sarah McAloon, interim president of Del Taco.

Del Taco said it rehired many of the same team members from restaurants that closed earlier in the year. It also has nearly 80 job postings across Colorado listed on its website.
