1 dead in I-70 crash involving pedestrian in Denver
One person is dead and traffic was snarled Friday after a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a motorist on Interstate 70 in Denver.
The Denver Police Department reported the fatal crash around 3:22 a.m. on the department’s official X account.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said the eastbound lanes of the state’s primary east-west artery were shut down at Peoria Street while police investigated the incident.
The lanes were reopened by 6:30 a.m., but residual backups were impacting the morning commute.
Details of what led to the crash were not immediately available.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Denver Medical Examiner’s Office.
It was the second night in a row that Denver police responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian. Overnight from Wednesday into Thursday, a pedestrian was hit and killed at Parker Road and Hampden, near the Aurora border.
