On Monday morning, a fatal two-vehicle wreck took place on the stretch of Highway 9 between Colorado mountain towns of Silverthorne and Kremmling. While the driver of an F-150 pick-up truck that was involved in the crash was airlifted to receive medical care after sustaining life-threatening injuries, those in the other vehicle involved in the crash were determined to be deceased. That said, at the time of the initial report, authorities were unable to determine how many people were in the other vehicle due to the vehicle’s extensive damage and a fire. By Monday night, an update was released that provided additional information about the tragic situation.

According to an update from Colorado State Patrol, those in the other vehicle – now identified as a GMC Yukon – included a 34-year-old male driver from Kremmling and four passengers, all five of whom were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The initial investigation related to the crash appears to show that the 25-year-old male driver from Parker who was behind the wheel of the F-150 traveled into the southbound lane, striking the SUV head-on. Following the impact of the crash, both vehicles caught on fire.

The investigation into the situation is ongoing, with no charges brought against the surviving driver at this time.

The crash resulted in a lengthy closure on Highway 9, stretching from just after 7 a.m. on Monday until 2:47 p.m.

The identities of the deceased will be released by the Grand County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.

Anyone who witnessed the crash but hasn’t talked to an investigator yet has been asked to contact Colorado State Patrol Dispatch at 970-249-4392.

Condolences go out to those impacted by these tragic deaths.
