Air Force football will honor F-16s with latest Air Power Legacy Series special uniforms
Air Force unveiled its latest Air Power Legacy Series special uniform on Tuesday, as it will honor the F-16.
The football uniforms will be worn at Navy on Oct. 4 and continue a line of special uniforms that date back to 2016, when a shark-tooth helmet was part of a look that paid homage to the nose art that was depicted on aircraft dating back to World War II.
This year’s look will include a helmet that replicates a fighter pilot’s helmet with the front bumper featuring a silhouette of the F-16. The word “Psycho” will be included on the helmet in honor of the call sign of Col. William Andrews, an Air Force graduate who was shot down in Operation Desert Storm.
Other features of the uniform will include the word “Viper” (a common nickname of the aircraft) down one leg and “Fighting Falcon” (the official name of the F-16) down the other.
The Air Power Legacy Series has seen Air Force spotlight the Tuskegee Airmen, the Space Force, the Doolittle Raiders and various aircraft, including B-52s and C-17s over the past 10 seasons.
