Denver weather: Sunshine and hot Tuesday across the Front Range

Typical early-August weather is forecast for Tuesday around metro Denver; hot and dry.
Denver residents can expect areas of smoke before noon, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. It’ll be mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98. South southwest winds between 5 to 9 mph become north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

“Fire danger will be elevated today due to hot and dry weather, and breezy winds at times,” the NWS said.
Tonight it’ll be mostly clear, with a low around 64. Northwest winds between 6 to 9 mph become south southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.
Tying record high temperatures Wednesday through Friday is possible, but each day would have to reach 100 degrees or higher for a new record to be established; Aug. 6 (100, 1980), Aug. 7 (99, 1980), Aug. 8 (105, 1878).
Continued high pressure over New Mexico will lock in hot temperatures the rest of the week before it moves east and cooler weather with the potential for rain showers happens on Saturday.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
Friday: Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 98.
Saturday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89.
