Leroux fire remains at 179 acres but still uncontained Wednesday
The Leroux fire remained at 179 acres Wednesday as crews continue to battle it in Delta County.
While the fire has yet to be contained, firefighters on Tuesday focused on extinguishing hotspots around the blaze’s perimeter with assistance from a helicopter carrying a water bucket, according to an online update published by the U.S. Government.

Winds remained calm into the evening Tuesday, allowing crews to reinforce their lines around the fire, according to the update. The overnight forecast called for humidity to increase to 30% or higher, which tends to slow burning after sunset.
The update also noted that, to reach containment, fire managers have to be extremely confident that the fire will not spread across control lines, even if crews have constructed a dozer line and removed fire-damaged hazards, as is the case with the Leroux fire.
A total of 93 personnel are currently working on the fire response.
