Although Colorado may not be the first place that comes to mind when someone’s thinking about sipping their way across one of America’s ‘wine country,’ the Centennial State has plenty of great places to try locally produced Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and much more.
Sip your way through Colorado’s wine country on this road trip:

Day One: Palisade
Kick off your wine-tasting experience in Palisade. According to Visit Palisade, the area is home to over 30 wineries. The valley’s natural climate is conducive to grape growing. Most of Palisade’s wineries are locally owned and grown. Some great wineries to visit are Restoration Vineyards, Peachfork Orchards & Vineyard, and Bookcliff Vineyards.

Try Fidel’s Cocina & Bar or Peche Restaurant between visiting wineries in Palisade.
Where to stay
Enjoy a stay at the Spoke & Vine Motel or Wine Country Inn (which sits amidst 21 acres of vineyards).
Things to do
Take a hike on the Palisade Rim Trail or go kayaking or paddleboarding on the Colorado River.
Day Two: Montrose
Further south, Montrose is also home to plenty of wineries. La Noue Dubois Winery is a family-run vineyard and winery that focuses on crafting “unique, quality wines.” Wine Horse Wine and Whiskey and Cottonwood Cellars (located nearby in Olathe), are two other great spots to get wine.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is located near Montrose and offers spectacular views with plenty of outdoor activities including hiking and rock climbing.
Day Three: Hotchkiss and Paonia
Hotchkiss and Paonia are also home to plenty of amazing wineries. Alfred Eames Cellars, Big B’s Delicious Orchards U-pick, Jack Rabbit Hill Farm, and Stone Cottage Cellars are great spots to check out and sip wine in Hotchkiss and Paonia.
