Denver Summit FC will be the name for new NWSL soccer team
What name and colors will adorn the jerseys of Denver’s new major league women’s soccer team? The team has finally decided.
The ownership group of the city’s National Women’s Soccer League franchise announced Tuesday it will go by Denver Summit FC, according to its website.
The team colors will be forest green, sunny yellow and Red Rocks red.
The logo shows a crest with a sun behind green and white mountains, similar in style to Colorado’s license plates.
“The peak is angled at 26 degrees as a reference to the club’s inaugural season in 2026,” officials said on the website.
The team wanted the crest to highlight Colorado’s natural environment, Denver Summit FC Controlling Owner, Rob Cohen in a news release.
“Our elevation offers us a distinct home field advantage, and our goal is to build a club that is always pursuing excellence on and off the field,” he said. “Much like the picturesque Rocky Mountains, our charge is to stand apart while always reaching for new heights.”
Denver Summit FC President Jen Millet said the team decided to go with a more gender-neutral aesthetic to make sure any age or demographic “felt great wearing” the team’s uniforms or merchandise.
“We recognize that our fans will be of all genders,” she said.
It’s also meant to evoke a sense of ruggedness and outdoor spirit that can appeal to the extreme athlete and to the city dweller, Millet added.
“There’s a kind of a grit and determination that exists within the culture and the area,” she said.
The name chosen was the top on the list of the six options the team gave fans to vote on. Well, not exactly as it is now.
Fans were asked in February to rank Denver FC, Denver Peak, Colorado Summit, Denver Gold, Denver Elevate and Colorado 14ers. They also had an option to add another suggestion.
“The name Summit was the overwhelming favorite during the club’s fan-led naming process. It suggests aspiration, unity, and elevation,” the city’s NWSL team said on its website.
The team chose to go with Summit but adjusted it to emphasize Denver over Colorado.

“Denver Summit FC is more than a brand or a name,” said Mayor Mike Johnston in a statement. “It’s a promise that this team aspires to represent what’s best about Denver on one of the biggest stages in professional women’s sports.”
The club is working to build a stadium on a long-vacant plot of land along Interstate 25 and Broadway that the city is planning to own.
The city plans to spend up to $70 million to buy a parcel on the old Gates Rubber Factory that shut down in 2001, though the funding still needs final approval from City Council. The plan has gotten some pushback from city councilmembers concerned about Denver spending money on a stadium when its facing a $250 million budget deficit and tough economic challenges, including city employee layoffs.
Getting Denver’s NWSL stadium across goal line challenging
Colorado Summit is also the name of Denver’s professional ultimate frisbee franchise.
Denver Summit FC said it worked with the frisbee team, which has decided to give up its name and be renamed for its 2026 season.
The NWSL team will begin playing in a temporary stadium in Centennial in 2026.
Denver Summit FC is already advertising merchandise of the new team name and crest on its website.
