Denver weather: Sunny and warm on Monday, t-storms possible

Denver residents should expect unseasonably warm conditions on Monday, with an increasing chance of rain as the day progresses, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Monday is expected to be mostly sunny, with light winds and a high of 77 degrees, the weather agency said. A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms increases to 40% in the evening. Wind gusts could reach speeds of 18 mph, but should mostly range between 6-11 mph.

“Scattered strong to severe storms will be possible across the plains late this afternoon into tonight, especially along and east of a line from Fort Morgan to Limon. The main threats would be large to very large hail and damaging wind gusts, along with locally heavy rainfall. An isolated tornado or two is also possible this evening,” the agency said.

Tonight, a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms exists with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 45. North winds to below between 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Here is the extended forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: A slight chance of showers before 9am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. High near 61. North wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Wednesday: A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Calm wind becoming east-northeast 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 80.

Friday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.
