Smoke appears at Grizzly Creek Fire after days of inactivity
Smoke was visible from the Grizzly Creek Fire on Tuesday after several days of no reported activity.
Fire officials announced they were monitoring the smoke and would take action if needed. Officials blamed the visible smoke on warm weather.
“We’ll continue to see smokes like this until we get some moisture,” Incident Commander Dan Nielsen said. “Please respect the area closure of the fire perimeter and remember the White River National Forest and BLM in this area are in Stage One fire restrictions.”
Smoke was visible in the Grizzly Creek drainage on the north side of the fire and the Devil’s Hole drainage south of Interstate 70. Officials said the smoke poses no threat to the fire line.
Containment of the fire has remained at 91% since Sept. 8. The fire size has been stable at 32,431 acres since Sept. 10.
Eight firefighters monitored the fire on the ground Tuesday from the White River Fire Module. Five additional crew members were available in a helicopter.
The number of firefighters assigned to the fire has decreased from 115 on Sept. 10 to 13 on Tuesday.
Before Tuesday, Grizzly Creek Fire officials had not reported any activity since Sept. 30, calling the conditions “quiet.”
Closures of Transfer Trail Road were lifted on Sept. 26 after weeks of no fire growth, with only fire perimeter and burned areas remaining closed.
