“The entire team here at News 9 are absolutely devastated by the loss as we know so many others are as well,” the station said in a statement. “Neena loved this community and the people who lived here. She was a kind person with a big heart and a contagious smile and we will miss her greatly.”

Pacholke is remembered for having “the biggest smile and the funniest laugh.”

“Everyday she made people smile, whether that was through a tv screen or just being an incredible friend,” WAOW co-anchor Brendan Mackey wrote on Facebook. “She was so happy and so full of life and a role model. Neena was so talented. She has so many friends and family members that love her so so so much.”

Kaitlynn Pacholke, the news anchor’s older sister told the Tampa Bay Times that Neena could “make you feel like you were the most important person.”

“She was just like a little ball of sunshine, and her smile was massive,” she added. “My sister was by far the happiest person I thought I knew.”

Neena Pacholke was engaged at the time of her death. Her sister confirmed she died by suicide.

“Sometimes you just don’t know what people are going through, no matter how much you think you know someone,” Pacholke added. “My sister had access to every resource you could imagine. She was loved by everybody. She was so good at her job.”

WAOW meteorologist Brad Miller, who worked alongside Pacholke, said her happiness was genuine.

“Still struggling to find the words to express my feelings. Neena was an amazing person — not just a coworker but a friend,” Miller wrote. “The smiles and happiness you saw from her on the air every day were genuine — she was exactly the same way off camera.”

Pacholke grew up in Tampa, Florida, and attended the University of South Florida where she lettered three seasons as a point guard. She joined WAOW as a multimedia journalist in May 2017.
